Tomato Production in Spain without Methyl Bromide
In the Mediterranean area, tomato soilborne pathogens used to be controlled by methyl bromide, particularly in protected cultivation. To decrease the use of this fumigant, non-chemical and chemical alternatives were developed and implemented in many Mediterranean countries. However, the success of the alternative depends on the degree of its integration in an integrated pest management programme.
متن کاملUV photodissociation of methyl bromide and methyl bromide cation studied by velocity map imaging.
We employ the velocity map imaging technique to measure kinetic energy and angular distributions of state selected CH(3) (v(2)=0,1,2,3) and Br ((2)P(3/2), (2)P(1/2)) photofragments produced by methyl bromide photolysis at 215.9 nm. These results show unambiguously that the Br and Br( *) forming channels result in different vibrational excitations of the umbrella mode of the methyl fragment. Low...
متن کاملTerrestrial Sources and Sinks of Atmospheric Methyl Bromide : Three - Dimensional Modeling of Tropospheric
Current estimates of methyl bromide surface fluxes are inconsistent with the observed tropospheric mole fractions (9 to 10 ppt, globally averaged) and the calculated atmospheric lifetime (1.7 ± 0.2 years), with mid-range estimates of sinks exceeding sources by at least 50 Gg y-I. Given the uncertainties in process-specific surface flux estimates, we consider several distributions of terrestrial...
متن کاملMethyl bromide under fire.
Methyl Bromide under Fire Methyl bromide is one of the most widely used pesticides in the world, a broad-spectrum fumigant effective in controlling insects, nematodes, fungi, and bacteria. Methyl bromide is also highly toxic to humans. In December 1993, the EPA listed methyl bromide as a stratospheric ozone-depleting substance subject to phase-out. The final rule, issued 1 January 1994, freezes...
